aside from the obvious, obvious fact that all of my internet presence(s) effect my own perception of myself more than anyone else’s (like, do I seem charming enough? do I seem like an unoffensive liberal, also do those exist), DO people care if I ever keep a blog consistently, and MOST importantly, do people read it and do I even enjoy writing in it. I think all of the answers are yes, and my NEW objective is to continue updating quietly (though not so quietly, as I will be linking TO my twitter, where I amuse myself in 140 or fewer characters).

also, I will post pictures of food and books more often because it would seem that according to my internet history I care about these two things exclusively, with the occasional episode of homeland to balance it all out.

I realize it is an unconventional pick, but then again aren’t all these fictional women just representations of qualities that resonate with us? Why not an anthropomorphic cartoon rodent? Because for me it all comes back to being seven years old watching Disney’s The Sword in the Stone on betamax at my grandparents house. With just a few minutes of screen time my ideals of romantic love were forged by a frisky girl squirrel’s ardent pursuit of young Arthur in squirrel form. These were the dream girl characteristics: cute, playful, affectionate, daring, confident, funny, and fully committed without reservation or judgment. This was a girl who would see that you are special and make sure you knew it, too. Someone who doesn’t play games, always has your back, and likes you for you. Someone who is sensitive, faithful, and devoted yet also tough enough to jump in a kick some ass if you are in danger. And Art had to go fuck it all up by turning back into a human and breaking her little squirrel heart. The sadness of the ending just made it all the more clear: if your lucky enough to find such a pure and simple love you’ve got to do your part and give it back. Take care of your squirrel mate. the work of developing a project is exhausting for some. but for me, it’s invigorating, exciting, and a reminder of why I’m so in love with the material. this weekend, I will attend the HORIZONS: Perspectives on Psychedelics conference. for three days, I will immerse myself in the work of leading scientists, speakers, and enthusiasts in the psychedelic world.

dr. apple’s last lecture is based (pretty loosely) on the life and work of timothy leary. all summer, I read books, articles, websites, and some indecipherable thoughts (looking at you, leary) relating to LSD, magic mushrooms, and other psychedelic drugs. I hope this weekend will renew my passion for this exciting project and connect me with some other artists who see how perfectly this story works as a piece of theater.

for my next project, I am producing a post-apocalyptic adaptation of chekov’s classic (COMEDY?) the seagull. at our first rehearsal, where wine, laughter, and imaginative tent cities were plentiful, I brought apocalypse cookies, which are really just peanut-butter chip cookies with mini pretzels. they were goodness, and as one actor so eloquently phrased it “they want for nothing.”
